Description

Carvacrol is a naturally occurring organic compound classified as a monoterpenoid phenol, commonly found in essential oils of oregano (Origanum vulgare) and thyme (Thymus vulgaris). Thanks to its functional and sensory properties, carvacrol is widely used as a natural active ingredient in various industrial applications.

Technical aspects

The antimicrobial activity of carvacrol is higher than that of other volatile compounds found in essential oils. This is due to the presence of the free hydroxyl group, hydrophobicity and phenolic component. Carvacrol has a characteristic pungent, warm smell of oregano, and colorless or pale yellow.

It is valued for its high purity, stability and versatility, making it suitable for use in food-related, feed, and technical formulations.

Application

Carvacrol is used in various industrial and commercial applications, including:
