Description

Thymol is a naturally derived organic compound classified as a monoterpenoid phenol, commonly found in the essential oils of thyme (Thymus vulgaris) and other aromatic plants. It is supplied as a colourless to white crystalline solid with a distinct aromatic, spicy-herbal odour reminiscent of thyme and a pungent, slightly sweet and medicinal taste.

Industrially, thymol is obtained through controlled isolation and purification processes to ensure high purity, stability and consistent quality. Owing to its characteristic sensory profile and functional properties, thymol has long been used as a key ingredient in flavour, fragrance and technical formulations. Its solid crystalline form allows for precise dosing and ease of handling in industrial applications.

Technical aspects

Thanks to its versatility and natural origin, thymol is valued across multiple sectors where aromatic intensity, stability and functional performance are required.
