Description

DL-methionine (feed grade) is a nutritional feed additive belonging to the functional group “amino acids, their salts and analogues”, authorised for use in animal nutrition under Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003. It is an essential (exogenous) amino acid that must be supplied in the diet, as the animal organism cannot synthesise it independently.

The product is supplied as a powder, crystalline powder or fine flakes, ranging in colour from white to light yellow, with a characteristic taste and smell.

Technical aspects

DL-methionine is characterised by high purity (min. 99%) and a stable powder or flake form. It is highly soluble and forms clear solutions with a slightly acidic pH. The product meets the quality requirements for feed additives and is characterised by low heavy metal and ash content.

Application

DL-methionine is used as a supplementary component in compound feed and concentrates for poultry, pigs and cattle. Its role is to supplement the methionine content of the formulation and to balance the amino acid profile of the feed against the animals’ requirements.

Methionine is one of the first limiting amino acids in plant-based diets, particularly in poultry nutrition. Supplementing feed with DL-methionine allows the amino acid supply to be matched to requirements without over-formulating on crude protein.

Storage

Store in a cool (5–30 °C) and dry (20–75% humidity) place, in tightly sealed containers. Protect from moisture.
