Description

Psyllium, also known as plantago ovata husk, is a natural source of plant fibre. The raw material comes in the form of whole husks or powder, ranging in colour from light beige to dark brown, with a typical slightly slimy taste and smell.

Psyllium husks are characterised by a high content of soluble fibre, which swells on contact with water and forms a gel-like structure. This makes psyllium valuable in the production of functional foods and dietary supplements that support proper digestion.

Technical aspects

Psyllium is available in the form of husks or powder of high purity and natural origin. Its physicochemical parameters guarantee its stability and wide application in the food and dietetic industries.

Parameter Value
Moisture content ≤ 12.0%
Purity ≥ 95%
Acid-insoluble ash ≤ 1.0%

Application

Psyllium husk is used as a source of fibre in dietary supplements and functional foods. Thanks to its gelling properties, it supports the regulation of bowel function and improves the structure and consistency of baked goods and gluten-free products.

Psyllium powder is also used in clean label recipes, fibre drinks, dietary mixes and special-purpose products for people who care about proper digestion and metabolism.

Storage

Psyllium should be stored in a cool (below 20°C), dry (humidity <65%) and shaded place, protected from moisture, insects and foreign odours.

Package

Psyllium fibre is packed in 25 kg smaller bags or big bags, adapted to transport and storage requirements.
